It’s Friday, so it’s time for Seven Quick Takes, hosted at This Ain’t the Lyceum. Be sure to check out the other Quick Takers at the link-up over there!
This is the busiest time of my year. I haven’t been blogging as much as I want to, but we’re trying to wrap up school (mostly) while also getting to all of our other activities. While I’ve been reducing stress by taking things off my plate, I’m still swamped because that’s just what happens at this point every year.
Our god-daughter is receiving her First Holy Communion next week! This is insane! WHY IS IT ALREADY MAY?? Where is the time going, or is it just speeding up? Does anyone have a TARDIS or know where I can get lessons in bilocation?
We’ve got a ton of travel coming up this summer. It starts when our niece and god-daughter in Florida graduates from high school at the beginning of June. Our girls will go on vacation with my parents after that, then come home in time to go to theater camp for two weeks (local, so they’ll be at home every night). The day after the second week of camp ends, we’ll be driving to Lake George, NY, for a family vacation with Nathan’s family. We’ll be visiting his father’s grave and seeing some of the sights. We’ll be back from that for about a week when the girls will take off for the Steubenville Youth Conference in Atlanta. I have a feeling this summer will go by in a flash.
My girls gave me some very nice pressents for my birthday. On my actual birthday (Wednesday), they worked together to scrub my bathroom and make it nice so I could use the jacuzzi tub. (I didn’t, but that was mostly because it was a really hectic night, and I fell asleep on the couch while trying to watch The Avengers.) They did all the cleaning up after meals, and let me relax as much as I could on a typically busy day. Then they took me to for a surprise yesterday. We went to the mall and they led me to a nail salon and paid for me to have a manicure and gel treatment on my poor, icky nails. It was so very sweet of them, mainly because it’s something I would never have done for myself (and even argued a little bit about them paying for it). But they turned out very nicely, and I am now tempted to go back and have it retouched sometime in the future.
Not only did they take me for a manicure, but they researched it first. They had their father ask around at the office to find out a good place to take me, then did research on whether or not to tip a nail stylist (and how much. The last time we were at the mall, they went to ask at the salon how much it would cost. I was pretty proud of them for thinking of all of those things on their own.
It’s been kind of a Birthday Week for me. I don’t think I’ve celebrated my birthday so much since I was a little girl! All week, we’ve been doing fun things that I want to do: Moms’ Night Out, birthday presents, manicures, dinner out … and last night we decided to go see Age of Ultron! We’re such a geek family, and we were trying to do our own Marvel Marathon at home before we went to see the newest movie. I finally gave up on that since we still had 2 1/2 moveis to go (see number four), and decided I didn’t want to wait any more! If you’re a Marvel fan, you’ll love this movie! It starts with a bang and doesn’t slow down AT. ALL. Don’t blink, or you’ll miss something. Just buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Here, have a little Robert Downy, Jr. Everyone loves RDJ, right?
